Background:
Bachelor of Environmental Design - University of Colorado Boulder
Master of Architecture & Master of Urban Design - University of Colorado Denver
My professional background is in mixed use, multifamily housing, and some historic preservation, but my passion lies in studying the urban enviornment. I have also recently begun teaching architectural studios at the University of Colorado in the undergraduate program.
I am also involved in:
ACE Menotring
Commitment to WID:
I began attending the Women in Design meetings to break into a professional network after finishing up my education in Boulder and quickly realized the importance of giving women in the design profession a group that focused on leadership, professionalism, and a work life balance, so often overlooked and disregarded. In school, I thought there was a more even ratio of women to men, but all my professors with few exceptions, were men. This frustrated me, yet also inspired me to return to the College of Architecture and Planning and contribute to the education of the next generation of designers as well as maintain an active role in a group that I believe is working to breach the glass ceiling.

Background:
BS in Architecture - University of Maryland, CP
Masters in Architecture - University of Colorado, Denver
I started out by working for an architecture and engineering firm for a couple years in Washington, DC. Then, I moved to Colorado in '99 to go to grad school and to find a place I wanted to stay and build a life. Now, after 10 years in the field, I find myself continually challenged and stretched by my profession, so that in spite of the long hours and lack of riches, I still enjoy it. I have worked on an unusually broad spectrum of project types and have found that management experience seems unavoidable to those who are capable and can be persuaded to accept it.
Commitment to WID:
I'm involved in WID because I think it's really important to uplift those around us. By supporting, encouraging, and educating each other, we all rise to greater heights and greater potential.

Background:
2004 - Bachelor of Interior Design - LSU in Baton Rouge, LA
Thrown into the healthcare team as an intern with The Lawrence Group in St. Louis 5 years ago, all because "they were busy at the time and needed some help", I never dreamed that Healthcare was the realm in which I'd still be practicing interior design. But it is, and I love it. I have had the enjoyment of working on several projects at St. Louis Children's Hospital; a multi-phased renovation of an emergency department; and a beautiful, atypical cancer center. Besides healthcare projects, I have worked on multiple restaurants, a children's daycare center, and a variety of graphic design projects.
I am also involved in:
Habitat for Humanity Denver
Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Colorado
The World by Road
Commitment to WID:
I love being a woman. I love that there are so many instances in professional situations which I, as a young, single woman who is an interior designer (a career, I have found, that many in the design and construction industry often do not take seriously) am forced to "prove" myself. It has helped build my character. Being in this position has allowed me to consistently focus on subtly working to far surpass all that may be expected of me, thereby strengthening my career and personal fortitude. I can't think of a more fitting organization with which I would rather be involved.

Landscape Architecture combines my professional interests in business, design and community investment. My years of practice have provided an opportunity to shape the outdoor living space of universities, elematary schools, transit oriented commercial sites and rural as well as urban hospitals. In addition I enjoy working with municipal agencies and presenting to community neighbors and town councils to gain support and regulatory approval of development permits.
I am also involved in:

Commitment to WID:
Denver is at a crucial point in its development where the rich history of the city is a springboard for innovative urban infill and the ecological impetus for smart growth is prioritizing mass transit infrastructure and multi-model transit systems. Women in Design is a fantastic organization where some of the great minds behind that development can discuss ideas, share learning experiences and combine resources to make Denver a truly stand out city in both quality of life and aesthetic design.

Background:
1989 - Bachelors of Science in Housing, Interior Design, and Resource Management with a Minor in Art & Art History - Virginia Tech
I started my career in Washington D.C. providing design services for the State Dept., Pentagon, NASA, FBI amongst many other federal agencies. After driving a 15 foot rental truck to Colorado, I worked as a jewelry designer and then with Herman Miller until joining an international architectural firm and working with the associates of industry leaders such as PEI, Hampton and Hunt. I was invited to audition for HGTV, but had a wedding date conflict. (Alas, design for the TV masses was not an ultimate "passion"...) As a Lead Designer/Project Manager, I have overseen numerous projects: airports, embassies, corporate, public, healthcare, luxury hotels, retail, residential, museums and even a hocky rink. While having received some awards and publications, the true reward is having a positive impact on the quality of people's lives. Currently I own my own design firm while exploring design journalism in order to expand public awareness of design education. My ultimate focus is on green healthcare/hospitality design with the parallel goal of pro bono design in economically challenged communities. "Retirement will be digging out a foundation for a rural Bangladesh clinic. Rock on Grandma...."
I am also involved in:
BRAC - Building Resources Across Communitites
Tennyson Home for Children
Southlands Business Team
Lakeshore Architectural Committee
Lakeshore Watch
Commitment to WID:
The professionalism and goals of this organization exceeds others I have had an opportunity to be involved with. Not to diminish those organizations, WID just makes a more concerted effort to seek out respective professional goals and establish a win-win situation for both the member and the organization. In addition, while we admire and respect our male counter parts in the industry, WID recognizes that women do indeed have a different career experience. This makes this group an invaluable resource for so many who just want to simultaneously contribute to society, have a family life, and benefit from a fulfilling, financially rewarding career.

Background:
I have extensive experience in design and project management for civic buildings, including police buildings, courts facilities, jails, libraries, and higher education projects. My commissions, which are located across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, range in size from 30,000 to 154,000 square feet. For these, my responsibilities have entailed developing preliminary concepts, planning and programming, interior design, detailing, managing the project, coordinating consultants, and coordinating facility security issues.
Commitment to WID:
As a woman, and a Hispanic, Puerto Rican, I understand the need to support women in the construction environment and the difficulties we go through. I believe if we don’t support each other, who will? As I was growing up, my family emphasized that I could do anything I wanted. My mom is a lawyer who, because of her children, decided to stop working to raise us all. She is an amazing woman and her decisions are facing her now, she did not have the support we do now a days but she was strong, smart and like every woman made a lot of sacrifices. Women play an extremely important role in society. We need to get together put our thoughts and ideas out there and help each other to move forward and help our communities and others in the growth of their surroundings and their building environment. How we LIVE can define us all.
